“A little piece is added, inserted, and coupled to the other, just like any territory’s unity. By doing so, we all express a wish, a longing, and a dream. We are joining each piece to create a whole: The unity of all the inhabitants in this world.” This has been the concept that Corporación América and Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, in cooperation with artist Nora Iniesta and Rasti Company, wanted to share to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our Mother Country.
From May 26 de through mid July, Corporación América and AA2000 invited passengers, their companions, and the employees alike to have an active role in the building of this artistic work located in the main hall of Ezeiza international airport.
Piece after piece, the public was gradually more enthusiastic with the project and placed the blocks with the colors of our flag one after the other, shaping the national flag that will now welcome everyone who comes to Ezeiza.
The idea this project symbolizes is that the country is built with the contribution of all its people. It seeks to integrate all the people that use the airport to show them that the little contribution of many people can make it possible to accomplish major goals.
“The artistic experience of collective construction within the framework of the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the May Revolution is certainly a unique action. It connects all the values and concepts that we, as Argentines, should always keep in mind,” said Nora Iniesta, the work’s creator.
The public did not merely limit to place a block. After doing that, they were given a souvenir – also a block – with a symbolic legend as a reminder of their contribution.
Under the concept of “unity,” the flag-colored blocks served as a catalyst of the wish to see these colors and the flag itself turned into art.
Supported on a metal structure of 2.50 m in length, Nora Iniesta’s work was made using 17,000 RASTI construction blocks. They were specially made for the occasion, and the light blue color was made by the toy company using a very special pigment.
