Argentine, Chilean and European people called for the “Expo Net” Seminar held in the trans-Andean country, have looked at the Project and at the Swiss experience in building the longest tunnel in the World.
The purpose of the above “Expo NEAT” seminar organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Santiago de Chile on the 6th May was, on the one side showing the features of “Saint Gotthard” railway tunnel construction –the longest tunnel in the World, 57 Km long-, joining the north and south of Europe; and on the other side giving information to Switzerland businesspeople and authorities on the features of Aconcagua Bi-Oceanic Corridor including the low altitude railway tunnel. This corridor will join Valparaiso (Chile) and Mendoza (Argentina).
The leader of the Concessions Business Department within the Ministry of Public Works MOW) Roberto Salinas, highlighted that Aconcagua Bi-oceanic Corridor “is being consolidated by its own size compared to other Andean crossings”. Salinas, who is also a member of the Bi-National Body/Entity and who follows up the progress status of the project highlighted that “the Corridor is under study and due to its own merits, has the Chilean Government’s support”
Within this framework, Aconcagua Bi-Oceanic Corridor Manager, Nicolas Posse, highlighted in his presentation that this corridor -going through the main cities and production and trade points of both countries- will cover 50% of their people and 52% of the GDP. He also pointed out that its influence area will reach Uruguay and the South of Brazil boosting physical and trade integration of the America South Cone and its connection with the Pacific Asia economies.
The abovementioned Executive man stated that “due to its importance, significance and legacy, the Aconcagua Bi-Oceanic Corridor and the low altitude railway tunnel is a necessary, urgent and financially feasible Project. The Swiss Government trusts in the Aconcagua Bi-Oceanic Corridor”.
Mr. Posse added that “Aconcagua Bi-Oceanic Corridor -52 Km long and 100 multimodal station- will contribute to physical and economic integration between Chile and Argentina and will turn into the Panama Canal of America South Cone Area”. In this way, response will be given to the unmet demand of shipment, at the highest safety and security standards and with an in-service guarantee throughout the 365 days of the year.
